How to apply Tape Extensions

How To Apply Tape Hair Extensions

Tape Hair is the fastest growing, most popular new method of attaching hair extensions.

Fine pieces of hair are stitched into a skin weft which has durable double sided tape attached to each piece.

Wash hair first with M.Y. Clarifying shampoo to remove product build up and to ensure that extensions can grip well to clean hair.

To apply the hair extensions you section your hair into a straight line.  Remove the backing tape from a piece of Tape Hair, and place it under a small section of your natural hair near the scalp.   Please make sure to only use a very thin section of your own hair.  You should be able to seethe tape through your own hair.  This ensures that the tape hair can stick to it self to help hold.  Using too much of your own hair will not let the tape hair stick to itself and it will come out easily.

Smooth/press your hair onto the tape using the end of a tail comb, or press firmly using your thumbs.  Then take another piece of tape hair, remove the tape and press it over the top of the previous piece. Your thin section of natural hair should be “sandwiched” between the two pieces of Tape Hair Extensions.

To get maximum grip on your Tape Extensions we also recommend that you use a hair straightener on medium heat and clamp over the two pieces for 2-3 seconds.  This will make the tape hair is warm and will stick together firmly. When warm press FIRMLY with fingers along the entire length of the piece to make sure each piece is stuck firmly together.  If pieces are not stuck firmly water can get between the two pieces when washed and they will not last as long.

Again. to ensure a good grip we recommend that you use a thin/fine section of your own hair and make sure that some of the tape can still be seen through your hair. This will ensure that when you place the second piece of Tape Hair over the top there will be places where it sticks to itself which will give a better grip.  It is also a good idea to leave a small piece at each end overlap so that the top and bottom pieces grip together, also to ensure a good grip.  Also use a hair straightener on medium heat to help heat the bonds so they stick firmly together.

We recommend that Tape Hair Extensions be applied to clean dry hair that has NOT been conditioned.  We suggest using a Clarifying shampoo first to ensure that your own hair is free of any other product before applying the Tape Hair Extensions.  It is also a good idea to refrain from washing your hair for 3 days after applying to give the tape long enough to bond  properly.

To remove Tape Hair Extensions you use a removal solution.  Using a cotton bud dip it into the removal solution and wet the top and bottom of the tape extensions.  Rub the solution into the bond area.  Using the end of a tail comb slowly pry the tape apart.  If it does not come away easily use more removal solution. Do not pull too much or you may damage your hair.

When the extensions have been removed clean the tape completely from the extensions.  Leave the hair flat and let the skin weft part at the top dry completely.  When dry you can retape the hair extensions with new tape and reuse them.  We also supply rolls of new tape.
